Janitor

Overview:

The janitor position performs custodial work in offices, machine shop and manufacturing production areas, and other building interiors, as well as outdoor facility property, storage areas and occasional site work/projects. In addition, the position requires assisting other Facility Team members (as required).

Essential job functions and responsibilities:

  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, wax and polish floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines

  • Dust and wash walls, clean ceilings and windows, work/equipment surfaces and dust and polish light fixtures.

  • Wash and replace blinds

  • Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment and clean areas

  • Remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using appropriate chemicals and cleaning solutions

  • Sweep walk, rake leaves, cut grass or perform other incidental seasonal tasks

  • Assist Facility Team personnel with project related activities such as cleanup associated with relocation of furniture, equipment, etc.

  • Remove and properly dispose of trash, cardboard and other recycle materials

  • Restock supplies in restrooms, photo copier and break rooms

  • Participate with snow removal activities and annual facility maintenance “Shut-Down” activities

  • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements

  • Ensure that work areas are clean, safe, secure, and well maintained

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required

  • High school/Trade school diploma or equivalent

  • Self-motivated with ability to effectively interface with varying levels of employees, both through written and verbal communication

  • Ability to properly interpret manufactures instructions required to make cleaning solutions

  • Possess the visual acuity required to perform detailed inspections related to janitorial activities

  • Must have valid driver’s license and be able to drive/operate cars

  • Possess strong organizational skills and attentiveness to detail

  • Work effectively in both an independent and team-based environment requiring minimal guidance and oversight

  • Possess time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to complete assignments in timely manner

  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values goals and objectives

  • Assume responsibility for related duties, special projects and miscellaneous assignments

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment

  • Must be a US Citizen

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration

  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/scanners/copier machine, janitorial cleaning equipment as well as the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).

  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.

  • Some travel may be required for this position (5-10%)

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 8 hours, Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties and schedules demand

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • The employee is regularly required to stand at length (7-8 hours, daily), walk consistently, stoop, bend, turn, balance, and/or crouch, and move about the facility.

  • Snow removal (inclusive of snow shoveling is required)

  • This position requires the ability to skillfully use cleaning instruments, materials and equipment

  • The employee may be required to lift, push, pull and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds

This position is at our Montville, NJ corporate offices location.
